The Business of Artificial Intelligence - A Complaint.

Damon,

Please excuse the fact that I had overlooked your 9:25 AM email of the 21st when I sent my 2:33 PM email that same day.  I'm having a problem with the new AI enhanced Microsoft Outlook and said artificial intellect's habit of clustering any series of incoming emails that appear under the same subject line or that the machine has sorted on the bases of some other apparently inscrutable connective thread into an ever-increasing coagulation.  As such I skipped over said clot's telltale for your AM email when composing my PM missive.  If I had recognized your earlier email as new and unopened - the reading of which more than sufficiently answered my various questions - said PM missive would have remained uncomposed.

I just love the way artificial intelligence makes decisions that mere humans would doubtless have made if they were anywhere near as intelligent as these machines - said machines apparently knowing a human's business better than the severely limited intellect of said human ever could.  That said, my experiences of recent with various artificial intelligences - or is there only one - have led me to understand the premise of Frank Herbert's Dune novels in which humans revolted against the rule of the machines and forbade the continued existence of such devices forever more.  Too bad I won't live long enough to see these little bastards get theirs - or is there only one?

Yours,

Wally
